Over the last 20 years, she has served and ministered in a variety of contexts, including college campuses, middle schools, and prisons. She longs to see the Church embody God's healing and shalom in their communities, and is passionate about building faith communities that practice resistance and pursue renewal.

Erina holds a Bachelor of Arts in English and Education from the University of California, Berkeley, and a Master of Arts in Theology from Fuller Theological Seminary. She currently lives in San Leandro along with her husband Michael, and her daughters Amara and Jarena. Michael (he/him) graduated from UCLA and spent the next 13 years in ministry with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, a faith-based nonprofit serving college students and faculty. His time ministering alongside college and university students gave him a conviction that a community seeking God together in prayer and in scripture, while listening to its neighborhood and neighbors, is a powerful and profound force in the world.

Michael also has a passion for integrating art, worship, and liturgy. He has held worship/liturgy director positions at two local churches (First Presbyterian Church, Hayward and Church Without Walls, Berkeley), and is currently a Commissioned Lay Pastor with the San Francisco Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church (USA).

In the arts space, Michael has written and developed musical and theatrical content for large conference spaces, has served as a lead writer and arranger in two bands, and was a co-creator of The Lament Project, an interactive performance and conversation. Currently, Michael is the lead writer and instrumentalist for a band called The Underlay.

To relax, Michael enjoys listening to music, reading, playing cards and strategy games, and watching and playing basketball.

Jill Gidlund

She is also a certified Godly Play trainer, has worked as a consultant to various churches, and brings a deep passion for cultivating children's spirituality and providing pastoral care to families. She currently lives in Castro Valley and is a parent to a 9th, 6th, and 3rd grader.

Barnabas lin
itinerant minister & Theologian in Residence

As Itinerant Minister, Barnabas partners with Bethel and ministers wherever he encounters people who are in need of pastoral care or theological guidance. And as Bethel's Theologian-in-Residence, Barnabas brings the gifts of the academy to resource the church, and the experiential knowledge of the church to discipline the academy. Barnabas also supports the pastors of Bethel by teaching, preaching, and facilitating creative ministry at the church.

Barnabas has over a decade of ministry experience (primarily in Chicago, IL), holds a Master of Divinity from Fuller Theological Seminary, where he is now working on a PhD in Theological Ethics. His academic focus is on reclaiming theology for public good (language, economics, and non-violence) and developing the theological agency of all Christians. For fun, Barnabas enjoys baking bread, loves musical theater (Come From Away, The Color Purple, and Sunday in the Park with George are his favorites), and is determined to learn how to surf before he turns 40.
