A YEAR AT THE TABLE: CALVIN GRANT PROJECT

Every Sunday that we gather for worship, our church re-affirms our identity as a “community reimagining church around God’s great welcome table.” God’s welcome table is not only a theological symbol, but also a physical site where we expand our imagination for what it means to live, to love, and to feast together.

From the fall of 2025 until the summer of 2026, our church received a grant from the Calvin Worship Institute to reimagine our practices around the communion table. Using the rhythm of various cultural heritage months and Pride celebrations, we curated communion services that allowed community members to see their diverse cultures, identities, and gifts represented at the table, while also inviting members to join themselves with people and stories different from their own. 

PHOTO BOOK:

At the end of our project, we created a photo book as a keepsake from our yearlong journey. It is curated to help us remember the vastness of colors and textures, foods and plants, gifts and griefs, theologies and histories held by our diverse church body, every time we gather at the table. We pray that it continues to help us reimagine communion- not merely as a practice of sacrament, but also as a practice of solidarity, modeled by Jesus, that nourishes our commitment to be re-membered together.
