Bethel Community: Anti-Harm Commitment
As a faith community committed to reimagining church and following the peaceable way of Jesus, the Bethel Community Presbyterian Church (BCPC), pastoral staff, and Session of Elders, are committed to a non-oppressive faith community and culture as it relates to gender, sexuality, race, ethnicity, class, immigration status, education, national origin, religion, age, and physical ability. BCPC will not tolerate oppressive, demeaning, degrading, discriminating, harassing, violent, and sexualized attitudes/behavior that cause harm within our BCPC community or are perpetuated by members of our pastoral staff, session of elders, or those representing BCPC, such as volunteers or group leaders.
In reflection of our value for being a community that “embodies a healing joyful home,” that “builds toward repair,” and “co-creates with hope and love,” we seek to reduce both interpersonal and institutional harm, while also creating pathways for healing, accountability, and repair when harm has occurred, centering the needs of the person who has been harmed.
Consequently, we have created a churchwide Harm Response Policy and Protocol, to enable us to uphold a culture of physical, spiritual, and psychological safety for every member of our community.
